Failed payments
If a plan renewal can’t be charged, your plan’s paid features are paused until the payment goes through. Syntic sends an in-app notification to the organization, and fixing it is usually a matter of updating the card and paying the open invoice.
What happens while a payment is overdue
| Area | Effect |
|---|---|
| Usage limits | The organization falls back to Free limits until the invoice is paid |
| API, Syntic Code | Refused, because they need an active paid plan |
| Buying credit | Refused with Your plan isn’t active. Please update your billing to buy API credit. |
| Members | You can still manage, suspend and remove members |
| Your data | Nothing is deleted |
While a renewal is still being processed, the plan stays active for up to 3 days after the paid period ends. Once the payment is recorded as failed, the paid features pause until it is paid.
Fix it
Update the card
Owners and administrators: go to Settings → Billing → Payment and click Update. See Payment methods. Owners can also update the card that pays the plan in the billing portal, from Manage plan on the plans page.
Pay the open invoice
Open the unpaid invoice under Invoices with View and pay it. If you try to start a new plan instead, Syntic opens the unpaid invoice with This workspace has an unpaid invoice. Pay it to restore your plan.
Check that the plan is back
Go back to Settings → Billing and use the refresh icon. The plan card shows your paid plan and its renewal date again.
Automatic credit top-ups also fail if the saved card is declined. Requests that need credit are refused once the balance runs out, so update the card as soon as you see a failure.
Common reasons a card is declined
- The card has expired or was replaced by your bank.
- The bank blocked an online or international payment; approve it in your banking app.
- Not enough funds or credit limit.
