Change a member’s role
Change roles from the member list in Settings → Members. Owners can give any role except Primary Owner; administrators can only move people between Developer and Custom.
Open Members
Select the organization in the sidebar, then go to Settings → Members.
Find the person
Use the search box to filter by name or email.
Pick the new role
Click the role menu in their row and choose Owner, Administrator, Developer or Custom. Options you aren’t allowed to grant are greyed out with the note Only owners can grant this role.
The change applies straight away and a confirmation such as Role changed to Administrator appears. If you choose Custom, Syntic adds: Access is now governed by this member’s groups and custom roles.
Rules
| Rule | Detail |
|---|---|
| Who can change roles | Owners, the Primary Owner and administrators |
| Your own role | Nobody can change their own role |
| Administrator and Owner | Only owners can grant or remove them. An administrator can’t change another administrator’s or an owner’s role |
| Primary Owner | Never assigned from this menu. Use Transfer the Primary Owner role |
| Suspended or removed members | Their role menu is locked until they are restored |
If you see You need admin access, your own role doesn’t allow the change. Ask an owner.
